3 Years 60,000 Miles of Subaru Crosstrek Ownership, Why I’m selling it.

I own the perfect car for my budget and lifestyle. It’s a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, and I bought it new from Subaru Santa Monica. When the salesman pulled it around for a test drive it still had all the delivery plastic on it, but he had left his McGriddle wrapper in the driver side door pocket.

Since then I’ve put 60,000 miles on it with multiple cross country trips, and I lived in it for 6 months in the summer of 2022. Never even changed the oil.

Just kidding.

The only modifications I have made are a Yakima roof rack and Thule cargo box, also a Diode Dynamics Yellow Pro Standard LED Pod mounted fore of the driver’s side mirror. The front clip and side mirror on the driverside were also allegedly modified, but by a mule deer.

It is a Cool Grey Khaki 6-speed manual base model, the only option is the rubber bumper guard in the back.

But it’s time for something new. And by new, I mean old. If I could have two cars, I would keep it. But I can’t, so I won’t. I would like a sports car, but I live in Colorado and I like to go hunting and hiking in the mountains, so a sports car won’t work as my only car. A manual transmission, ground clearance and 4WD is mandatory for me. Right now I am shopping for Toyota Tacomas and Mitsubishi Delicas.

In order to maximize my return when I sell the Crosstrek, I’ve started the process of detailing it and returning it to stock. So far I have cleaned the interior and removed the LED light and bracket I fabricated. Much remains to be done, including repair of the alleged front end damage - which is purely cosmetic - polishing and touch-up paint. 75% of the swirls and scratches in the paint came from a very brief visit to Arizona. I’ve already purchased a DA Polisher that I got for $50 from Ace Hardware. I don’t like the polisher much but it seems legit for $50.

In a Tacoma I would like a V6 extended cab or four-door, 4WD manual with at least a 6ft bed (so I can sleep in it) and under 120k on the odometer. Not red. The budget is around $20,000. In a Delica I would like a 4WD original example with a manual, no Crystal Lite roof for simplicity’s sake.
